parents generally believe it is their responsibility to plan the careers for their children. they claim that they know their children well enough to decide what kind of job suits them. hoping that their children will go in for professions that will bring them the greatest prestige and economic benefit, many parents think that their children are too young to see this for themselves. there are some parents who even expect their

children to take over the careers of their fathers. for these reasons, many parents insist that their children should obey them in choosing careers.but many children suggest that they should be left free to choose their own careers. for one thing, parents and children may not share the same interest. a job that appeals is likely to be boring for their children. for another, children have been brought up in a different age from their parents’, and therefore, should be allowed to cultivate a spirit of independence and self-reliance. in short, children should be free to make their own decisions as to future careers.

in my opinion, in this case as in many other things, mutual understanding is important. on the one hand, parents’ view does reflect their concern for the well-being of their children. on the other hand, after all it is the children who will be doing the jobs. therefore, it will be wise for parents to give them this freedom while for the children they should consult their parents when it is necessary.

people in big cities are nice,friendly and helpful. they are polite to strangers. when you get lost, they are willing to show you the right directions. when youre hurt in an accident,theyre also eager to send you to hospital at once. however, citizens dontknow each other so well, because most of them are busy with earning their bread. while in the countryside, things are much more different. almost everyone is so familiar with each other. they always say hello to each other onthe way. even though you are strangers, they also talk to you like old friends.and they are also happy to invite you to dinner in their homes.

maybe most people like the big cities, because of the good living conditions. but i prefer to live in the countryside, for its much quieter and more peaceful. in the morning, i can lie in the bed, listening to the birds singing. it seems like a free concert, whichcan bring me a happy mood. moreover, i can meet different kinds of people outside. when i greet to them and smile to them, they also do the same to me.its just a simple life, but the feeling is so great.

today. you can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.＇ i choose to be in a good mood. each time something bad happens, i can choose to be a victim or choose to learn from it. i choose to learn from it. every time someone comes to me complaining i can choose to accept their complaining or i can point out the positive side of life. i choose the positive side of life."

"yeah, right. it isn＇t that easy." i protested.

"yes it is, " michael said. "life is all about choices. when you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. you choose how you react to situations. you choose how people will affect your mood. you choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. the bottom line is: it＇s your choice how you live life. " i reflected on what michael said.

soon thereafter, i left the big enterprise that i had worked in for years to start my own business. we lost touch, but i often though about him when i made a choice about life instead of reacting to it. several years later, i heard michael was involved in a serious accident, falling off 60 feet from a communications tower.

after l8 hours of surgery, and weeks of intensive care, michael was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back. i saw michael about six months after the accident. when i asked him how he was, he replied, "if i were any better, i’d be twins. wanna see my scars?" i declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place.

"the first thing that went through my mind was the well being of my soon-to-born daughter," michael replied. "then, as i lay on the ground, remembered i had two choices: i could choose to live or i could choose to die. i chose to live." "weren’t you scared? did you lose consciousness?" i asked. michael continued, "... the paramedics were great. they kept telling me i was going to be fine. but when they wheeled me into the operation room and i saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, i got really scared. in their eyes, l read ＇he＇s a dead man.＇ i knew i needed to take action." "what did you do?" i asked. "well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me” said michael. "she asked me if i was allergic to anything. ‘yes,’ i said. the doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. i took a deep breath and yelled", ‘gravity’” over their laughter, i told them, ＇i＇m choosing to live. operate on me as if i am alive, not dead＇."

michael lived, thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. i learned from him that every day we have a choice to live fully. attitude is everything.

time spent in campus is not always treated with gracious look, but some parents may choose other ways for the longevity of their childrens post-high-school period, namely, find the adolescents a job, rather than sending them to a college. i can find myself against this act for a thousand reasons, amongst which we can figure some strongest ones as follows:

my first con against this behavior is that education is not just a benefit but also ones rights. without education , as gorge orwell had once said ,is to be deprived of the most precious privilege in our time as a modern man. with college education , youngsters can choose a better way of doing thing correctly and more efficiently. the sharp contrast between those who have received well education and those without is not just financially, but more vitally, spiritually.

admittedly, we can find cases of some one achieves without college education, but these cases are famous only because they are rare. those people who succeed with a college degree are so many that this would seem to be a must and a natural part of elites. the absence of university education is hard to imagine in our days. the prospect of those juvenile workers or businessmen would be even dimmer than ever before .for in our age, knowledge is not only the power, but also the know-how to solving problems and gaining a much larger fortune.
